Default Intel Rumoured to Release Overclockable Core i5 & i7 CPUs

AMD has long offered "Black" editions of many of its popular processors, geared solely for overclockers with their unlocked multiplier. Intel has now embraced the overclocking ways and is said to be launching a "K" version of two popular LGA1156 CPUs The new processors, labeled the Core i5 665K and Core i7 875K are based on the mid range LGA1156 so... It is nice to see Intel bringing true overclockability to the mainstreem market.

EE processors hold a disgusting price premium over regular units... $1k + is not feasible for most.

AMD's Black Editions have not had a price premium for a while, they may only be the top end of the line, but they still fall right into the appropriate price category. They have even provided BE's for things like the 5000 series and other "low end/mid-range" offers.

Its about time big blue got on board. But yes.. pricing will determine whether or not this idea sinks or swims.

You know, I've never even overclocked my 965 EE once?

I dunno, I just never bothered hahaha

Anyways, this is pretty cool... since Intel was always so hard lined against overclocking for such a long time

I don't know how intel will price these. With AMD its usually just the fastest of something gets black edition (of dual cores, of quad core, etc) and the price generally isn't more of a jump then it would be if it wasn't black (ex: the price difference from x4 945 to 955 is justifiable even if it wasn't a black edition). I have a feeling that with intel you will have to pay to play.

oh boy...... and after peoples will continue to say that a 1156 is a dead end.. pair it with a Maximus Formula, or extreme, and you are in business.
