Default Time to Bid Farewell to Windows XP SP2

Long since being lauded both the best and the worst operating system available, XP has none-the-less stood the test of time throughout these years. Alas all good things must come to an end, although reputed to be the saviour of operating systems throughout the tough Vista years XP's service life will be coming to a close. Announced as of July 13th... [ Read full article ]

Its all about the money.

If something works why bother with anything else?

Lots of people have computers that can't run Vista or Win7 and don't want to upgrade.. so what are they going to do?

Its not like updates are THAT important.

I think it is just the support that Microsoft will be cutting off. Everyone can still use SP2 but MS will not resolve any issues you may have unless you go SP3. Almost all issues can be solved by Googling anyways.

It's all about money? XP is 9 years old. If you have a 9 year old computer then you must be scratching your nuts a lot waiting for the interwebz and just about anything else to load. I'd say it's about time to upgrade.

I am all for being frugal as the next guy, in fact I think I'm cheap, but you can't expect a company who makes OS software to survive on supporting a 9 year old product. In this case I totally support moving people to buying a newer one. Tis the greater good imo.

Gotta disagree with you thunder, any people, like me who're stuck on the 915g chipset are out of luck since Win7 runs like a turd since MS didn't feel it was necessary to release WDDM drivers. Stickin with xp on this old laptop of mine. However, its about time they ditched support for SP2, SP3 has been out for long enough

Why would anyone still be using SP2? If you had a validated copy, shouldn't it just update to SP3??
