The site lists the P7 series of Asus boards as 'compatible' models. Is that for it to work at all, or optimally?

Well products are sure to come fast now that older pc's have this to connect to them. I asked Gigabyte for a front panel connector for this card, to really make it easier to connect to, hopefully they will make revision.

PCIe x4 though. Will take up a x16 lane on most systems. I think I'd rather have the Gigabyte card.

I agree but the only card in my core2quad rig is a 5870, I'd probably still get a Gigabyte card for the other computer but I'd really like sata 6gb without upgrading. Can't wait to see some decent hard drive docks.
