Intel fanboy vs AMD fanboy. LET THE WAR BEGIN!

6 cores, 12 threads. Worth the price? For me, nope. Do I need it? Nope. It is nice to see how quick technology is moving along though.

I know but I have no other 6 core to compare, and it's just to show that at $ 1000 it's a good deal, if we can say.

No, but 6 cores at around the $500 range would be great.

Yes, but its also a 4 way(Xeon 7xxx series) CPU, even the Quad Core 7xxx series start at like $2,000 each. You can't compaire pricing between diffrent product segments.

The Xeon 56xx(Gulftown) series, which are the same CPU as the i7(i9) 980X EE, will actually start at around the $500 range and go up to the $1800(tops) range. They are scheduled for release around the same time as this hexacore i7. So if you really want/need 6 cores, 12 threads you'll be able to get them starting around the $500 range I suspect, but speeds will be greatly diminished(think, 2.26GHz in the $500 range with no hyper-threading) when compared to the i7 line.

Those I9 6 core are design for high end WS and Enthusiast PC , for that I have no problem with the 1K, of course like all the time they start with a EE and after release slower one, the only thing that suck, it will have be good for a folder no ? it will be good if Intel give a discount to folder . Microsoft can do the same too, after all folder are non profit organization, less the organization

I suspect it will be like an Extreme Edition. The pricing won't fluctuate it will just eventually get replaced.

Hi all,

Personally, I like my Atari.

See, I am not getting into this conflict, I mean discussion.

Take care..............

PS: For years I was a staunch AMD fan, but lately, have "gone to the dark side".

AS of right now the closes thing AMD has to compete with core i5 and i7 is the 965 heavily overclocked which is still slower than the i7 920 oc so AMD can only compete against intel's medium end at best. I wish AMD would get something better out but that doesn't look like that will happen in a long time.

As far as performance this I7 with 6 cores at 4ghz beats any processor out there at 4ghz. E8400 can do 4ghz but is no where on the radar screen for a comparison in multi threaded performance.

As far as pricing yes it is over priced but AMD would do the same thing. Heck AMD/ATI is over pricing the 5000 series right now but a good $100-$200 over and you bet you will see a massive price drop as soon as a competitor comes into the picture so don't say AMD is all roses.

You get a real good point here,

I got a great laugh out of this thread. I had a rough day so it's appreciated.

When AMD can get me "-smp 8" then I'll pay attention to them. Until then they are nobodies unless I am building a HTPC.

I was AMD from from 2000 until 2008. When they release something compelling for me then I'll come back.

The naming scheme is dumb. Obviously we know how complicated explaining this to others in layman's terms is... but, do you know how hard it is to explain all the different i7 models to my best friend? It's ridiculous.
