Default Intel settles with AMD - forks up $1.25B

Can't even argue that Intel isn't guilty anymore, a settlement like this is basically an admission of guilt.

? Whom else would be in the #2 spot?

This is a great chance for AMD to start "ramping up" using these new funds

More lawsuit? Now AMD have no more reason to run intel but...anti-trust law still have. well...let's wait a little and see what will happen.

By ramping up I assume you mean paying off their large debt ;)

We'll see how much the creditors snatch up of the $1.25B, but it's the new licensing agreements that will probably be more important in the long run. AMD hasn't been able to charge high premiums for their stuff lately, so not having to pay royalties will likely improve their profit/unit significantly. And as for Intel continuing to deny guilt, they've already been found guilty of some of it, nevermind this agreement specifically.

I have to wonder whether this will affect AMD testifying in the still-pending cases. If they don't testify, will that make it harder to get other charges to stick?

from what i understand, this settlement is only in regards to the lawsuit between AMD and Intel, and has nothing to do with the multiple other anti-trust suits, etc that are going on. I don't see what AMD would even need to testify, since the evidence of Intel's "bonuses" to Dell and other OEMs has already been found, but they probably still will testify since they might be legally required to do so.

What licences have been included in this? I assume (but could be wrong) that there is some X86 provision that AMD wants, but you suppose there is some graphics technology Intel is looking for?
