I think you have a typo here:

"The cards are rumoured to receive the labels of HD 5870 and HD 5950."

Shouldn't that be something like "the cards are rumoured to receive the labels of HD 5970 and HD 5950"?

Too bad there isn't enough space in my case for one of these. Oh, how much fun would it be to crossfire two HD 5970s?

According to fudzilla the 5900 series will be the dual chip versions of the newly released cards. 5870x2 and 5850x2 we can guess.

the 5900 will not be the x2 cards, that wouldnt make sense for the current naming scheme. The 5900 will just be a more powerful 5870.

Though, got to say its impressive that ATI has gone from paper launches to full lineup launches.

By who?
If they're single gpu hopefully the improvement will be greater than the 7%(or so) difference between 4870 and 4890.
Just wondering, you guys think gpu's will ever move to dual core single chips instead of dual gpu's?
