Default AMD/ATI Releases Hotfixed Drivers for 5800 Series Video Cards

Those lucky few owners of ATI's new Radeon HD 5800 series video cards, may find themselves in a bit of a bind if trying to install the latest Catalyst 9.9 drivers, as it does not officially support the Cypress series chips yet. As such, this morning AMD has opened up a hotfixed driver package to the public, to tide owners over until the release of... [ Read full article ]

Heh yup - to be truthful they kind of vary on release from month to month, but usually it is right in the middle of the month rather than the beginning.

I was hoping to have a legit driver to use with my new 5870... as opposed to a "hotfix".

Oh well, Crysis can wait... for now. I've been waiting so long to play it on dx10 mode with everything maxxed!

It seems AMD hasn't learned anything from the 4000-series launch.

Back when the 4850 and 4870 cards were released, there was no official support and while existing drivers worked, these cards achieved poor performance. Weeks later, AMD finally put out a driver that officially supported the cards.

Then, when they released the 4890, I was put back in the same situation. I had to wait 3 days until they released some sort of "backroom" beta driver which was absolutely "beta", let me tell you.

And now with the 5000-series cards, here we go again. Seriously, AMD should hand out partial refunds for the trouble they're causing all of the people who bought the cards on launch day.

This news is quite pathetic I have to agree. Especially since its happened before. I hate nvidia for all its rebranding and physx handicapping but I'm also not a fan of ATI and its lack of "connection" with gamers and their pathetic launch day driver support.

Is it really impossible to have a graphics company that is not a failure in half the things they do?
