Default 58xx series coming this year?

I read this article at XBit and had to reread it to ensure I was reading correctly. I was originally under the impression that ATI's new 'Hemlock' dual-chip GPU was going to be a 4890X2, but the article reads out that a whole new DirectX 11 family is due for release. Obviously we all new this was coming, but I didn't know it was slated for this year.

To quote the article:

"At present there are no precise details about ATI Radeon HD 5870 X2 “Hemlock” graphics card available, but it can be expected that the product will feature 2GB of GDDR5 memory as well as numerous digital outputs, including DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI. Actual performance and other specifications will be determined a little closer to the release dates and will depend on competitive position of AMD’s graphics business unit."

There's a press event on the 10th during which ATI is expected to reveal the details about the 5 series as well as possibly launch it.

Damn... have I been floating around in the clouds? Somehow I let this totally slip by me. Although I'm certainly excited to see what's coming.

That's what I get for working afternoons the past few weeks. I get to stop in at HWC and a few random other sites, but most of my internet here is blocked. I was under the impression the release was for Q1 2010.

The next-gen nVidia cards are expected some time next year. The 5xxx series should be out by the end of this one.

The question is, between them (Ati and nVidia), which one will fold better?

nVidia. The ATI client needs a lot of optimization before we can expect decent numbers out of it, even if their GPUs are very fast.

The reason why Nvidia is better at folding compared to the ATI cards is because of CUDA. Programming in C is a cinch, which ATI Stream doesn't have. I think they should work together to really bring GPUs to the forefront of computing technology.

If they get out soon! I will buy one for sure, not only for test it but...When getting new CPU and mobo and memory, why not a all brand new computer in maybe a corsair case or a TJ-07? IMO, these card have ben one of the most secret new release on the market this years. We have many rumor runnong about it, they are prob about to come out and no one know nothing? wow, good job AMD this time;)

Ask for more.
