Default XFX Releases HD 4650 AGP Graphics Card

Despite not being included on motherboards for nearly 5 years, AGP is still not ready to go the way of the dodo.

XFX has joined with other ATI manufacturer's in producing the HD 4650, a mid-range video card that still uses the legacy bus. The card is identical in spec to the PCI Express version, and features speeds of 600MHz Core and 800MHz Mem... [ Read full article ]

Not likely, they just use DDR2 to keep cost to a minimum.

I wonder how many system still use this interface today ? Obviously, enough that makers are still releasing AGP models. It's a bit surprising but I think it's a good thing that people that have older system are able to find parts to keep their rig going. I think that since this is an hardware enthusiast forum we tend to forget that many people don't change their rig every 6 months. In fact, I personally know quite a few people that are still running 4 or 5 years old computers....

About 1 year ago I built a system for my wife (AM2) and I bought a motherboard that had AGP on it so I could use one of my existing AGP cards (to save money). She doesn't game but she has a 3650 AGP card in it and if that ever dies I can just pick up something like this for her.

Well... I guess they have the market cornered...

Truthfully though, given how many people are still playing games like EQ1 and DAC with old machines, I'm a little surprised it took this long for a company to release a new AGP card.

Thumbs up

just grateful that there is a card like this out there...put my machine together about 5 years ago and still rocking the agp, and with my 7600GS OC, vista, and now 7, cant quite play my games the way i used to as i always had to use an older driver that is not compatable with vista or win7! With this nice addition to the AGP community i put my order in last night and expecting my card this tuesday!
