Good move by Intel, not so good for NVIDIA. This pretty much puts the NVIDIA chipsets out of business. There aren't many people out there that purchasing NVIDIA motherboards in the first place, and many that do, well I hear that they have problems with the chipsets, or they purchased them just so that they can use SLI. Now that LGA1156 can support both Crossfire and SLI, bye bye NVIDIA.

That might be a solid move by Nvidia.... or is it "Vidia" eh eh FiXT?

Lots of companies make their money by selling off the IP of a product rather than actually making the product. Personally I'm happy. I hate having to buy a chipset based off SLI or Crossfire.... now it's all wrapped into one, like it should have been from the beginning.

Yes, it hurts their chipset business, but opens up a lot more GPU business. Now, almost anyone with a P55 or X58 chipset can easily add in a 2nd GPU in SLI without having to buy a special motherboard.

I don't think they wanted to design a whole new chipset for the P55 boards as their NF200 wouldn't fit in too well. So, what they have done is killed two birds with one stone: added SLI features to upcoming mobos while not having to spend money on the development and marketing of a new chipset.

Yeah, that's a good point too. Saving money on the fabrication processes now (which could be lossy with a bad run) and potentially more GPUs sold.

I think they will get more sales in GPU's because I always wanted to have multiple GPU's and that only happened when I bought an Intel mobo that had crossfire (X38). Other than that SLI wasn't even an option till X58.

Probably a wise move as they are done with chipsets right?
