Is it worth $10 retail or $10 at cost?

For a HD 4770 or HD 4670 it is worth $15 since it provides very good cooling and whisper-silent operation. The problem is what I mentioned before: it doubles the height of your card.

For the HD 4850, I find that this cooler is right on the edge of what is acceptable. If you increase the fan speed to ~40% on the stock heatsink the cooling will be comparable.

Bah, it's a 4850 budget card. Who cares what cooler is on it. Cheaper the better, as long as it keeps it cool in with it's factory settings good. Anyone who wants to seriously OC it is going to A) not get a 4850 to begin with and B) change the cooling to something else.
