My System Specs

Default Consumer friendly 600MB/s Fusion-io PCI-E SSD

Gizmodo - Fatal1ty Teams With Fusion-io For Lower-Priced 80GB ioXtreme PCI Express SSD - Fatal1ty

US$895 is pretty high but it's 3 times faster than most SSDs and people pay this kinda money for RAID array anyway. Makes me regret buying Vertex a little

Specs:

ioXtreme

Silly Fatalilty.... can you even game anymore? lol...

All kidding aside, these things are going to be insane when the prices come down... The only problem is that it takes up a PCIe slot, which may or may not interfere with your already crowded motherboard using SLI or Crossfire. However, given that these guys are already pretty small (the picture posted looks low-profile to me) it MIGHT be possible for "special edition" motherboards to come out in the future with a PCI-express SSD built directly into the motherboard - but obviously in a bigger form factor than normal... I.E. What Would have been an mATX motherboard is now ATX, using the extra PCB space for an integrated SSD. What Would have been an ATX motherboard is now eATX, same reasoning.... etc etc...

I have 2 mini PCI-e slots on my board, 1 is wasted by dual slot GPU heatsink, that leaves me with 1 available, which I reserved for USB 3.0 PCI-E card, now I have to decide between SSD and USB 3.

Do you have a USB 3.0 device that's making use of the bandwidth? (I wasn't aware that it was in normal production yet).

I mean by the time this drive will cost $400, USB 3.0 cameras should be available.

This is the sort of thing that demonstrates how more motherboard makers need to start splitting up their PCI-E lanes better. Right now, I think it`s only Asus and Biostar who let you run a 16x/16x/4x split on the X58 boards.

I'll believe the specs when I see some reputable sites demonstrate them. They look promising, but it's easy to inflate SSD specs, and have the numbers in no way reflect real-life scenarios. Just look at the changes the Vertex has gone through, and how they've restated their performance specs through different firmware upgrades. The drives are actually doing better now, even though the revised numbers look a little less impressive.

Interesting, but I think I'm leaning to 1TB SSD from PureSi start up.

I'm not even certain if you can boot off them... I've heard thats a severe limitation of many of these newer PCIe SSDs... They don't appear to most BIOSes as a valid boot device... which means that you have to install windows on a different drive then use one of these PCIe SSDs for storage/games/paging file...
