Default AMD & GIGABYTE Proving Grounds Video

Recently, AMD and Gigabyte teamed up to combine the new AMD phenom II X4 955 processor with the GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard, and put them in the capable hands of overclocker Brian Mclachlan (aka. chew*) to see what results could achieved using air, phase change, dry ice, and liquid nitrogen cooling methods.

The benchmarking session was filmed, and the result is the Proving Grounds video, which you can watch on Youtube in Standard or High-Definition format.

The end results of this overclocking endeavour are as follow:

#2 3DMark06 23,883

Single ATI Radeon HD 4890 Class

#1 3DMark06 28,831

Dual ATI Radeon HD 4850 Class

#1 3DMark06 Score 32,281

Dual ATI Radeon HD 4890 Class

Results on DDR3

DDR3 5-5-5-15-20 At 1443 Mhz

DDR3 6-6-6-16-22 At 1636 Mhz

Results on Air

4515 Mhz All Core Validation

4070 Mhz Extreme Stability | CPU 1.50V

Results on Dry Ice

5217 Mhz All Core Validation

4717 Mhz Extreme Stability | CPU 1.60V

Results on Liquid Nitrogen

6405 Mhz All Core Validation

6283 Mhz Benchmark PI 1M (6283) 11.078 | DDR3 9-9-9 1700

5751 Mhz Extreme Stablity | CPU 1.80V

I think we can all that agree that is one mighty showing from chew* and the AMD Phenom II X4 955 / GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT-UD5P combo. The new Dragon platform is definitely showing some promise

Oh it's definitely a good showing. I'll have to watch this when I get home. AMD is definitely putting on a good show here. The only question I ask is if that was a cherry picked processor or straight from retail. Sometime this can tell all the difference.

While AMDs chips can achieve higher clocks than Intel's, Intel's chips can do more clock for clock which means that they get the upper hand in the performance/frequency spectrum, however not price/performance. Overall I think this is a great year to upgrade because no matter what you choose, it's a good choice!

I think it's fair to assume the CPU(s) came straight from AMD's testing labs.
