I agree, I think we're getting jaded by all the numbers when it comes to job losses..
I'm hoping when we come out the back end of this mess that companies learn that bigger isn't always better..

Off topic, but there is every indication that the Canadian dollar will only strengthen from where it is right now. There is no going back to the sub-0.70 days.

Low oil prices won't have a greater effect then what we have already experienced. There will be an influx of investors seeking the safest possible currency as the USD tanks in 2009-2010, and the CAD will be leading the way.

Correct, I follow the market closely and this seems to be the case, I'm not gonna bother explaining why as I have a half dozen times. Look up some of my older posts if your interested in how the current market conditions are gonna effect our dollar.

I also follow the markets very closely - While the U.S. will tank, we also will tank - wea re plagued with economic and political instability right now and it's going to get worse. As to oil prices, they will go back up - do you honestly think they will stay stuck below the $50 ? No way - Did you read about the OPEP and what they are doing about it ? They are seeking to tighten supplies and get oil stable between $70-$80 at least and going higher eventually. I think our dollar is going to take a hit, before it goes back up eventually, but that is only temporary, I don't expect our dollar to reach parity or even close anytime soon. Keep in mind the U.S. will tank and we are in the same boat too in Canada - wait until the big numbers come out and find out the extent of our deficit for 2009-2010 - I mean Christ we can barely keep a STABLE government who gives a two shit about ECONOMY, and it has its hands tied because of a seperatist party. For Canada to propser we need a major hauling of our system otherwise I feel we are headed for very hard times.

As far as the US is concerned they have nobody but to blame but themselves saw this coming from miles and miles away and let it happen like many things in US history. Banks, major corporations, oil, gas and electric companies will continue to reap billion dollar profits while they recieve their corporate welfare payments funded completely by the tax payer. To me its simply utter bullshit and its the people at the bottom of the food chain that suffer the most and pay the highest price.

As far as western digital is concerned I am inclined to agree with Enaberif and Mark, this is just the beginning of the end it won't take very long for people to realize that the customer support they once got seemingly doesn't exist anymore.

On a completely different topic but related WhirlPool Canada is shutting down their entire customer support centre here in Canada thats about 300-400 people without a job including my mother. The irony here is she had just been offered a permanent position only to be told she will laid off come February 2009 about 3-4 weeks later, hows that for a happy ******* new year. She has already told that Canadian customers are now being redirected to their head office in Tennessee and it has created a world of problems, she spends more time fixing problems coming from that support centre than being able to assists Canadian customers right in their own country let alone province.

We're in this for the long haul we'll be funding this recession to our graves and it makes me wonder if I'll be able find work in the new year, although I am sure McDonalds and Tim Hortons are always hiring, wow!! such a promising outlook.

My little rant for the day...

Lots of retail stuff is going to not moving after and into the new year.
It won't just be computer HD's and the sorts either.
Just to many uncertain economic issues.

They are halting production for two weeks, anything to save some $, which is normal...it's not doomsday! Only thing is that the low prices we've enjoyed for hardware these past years, well, it's over ! You can epexct a 35%~75% increase in prices on hardware components for the many years to come - Expect to see RAM prices and HD prices to go up as well.......at least until ths crisis comes to pass, which should take another 15~20 years.

So does this mean purchasing a brand new Velociraptor 300GB HD from NCIX for $249.99 on the New Years Sale was a good time to buy?
