Default This might be a stupid question....
A PSU will not turn on unless its connected to the motherboard correct? I had a very old 480watt PSU lying around and I wanted to test some fans. So I plugged in the PSU and hooked up some fans, and I didn't get any power. Can you damage a PSU just by plugging it into the wall and turning it on without hooking it up to the motherboard?

Ya I know, dumb questions.... :P

No, you can't damage it. It is possible to turn on a PSU without a mobo. You should have a look on this page: Tutorials | Turn on PSU without motherboard - the 'paperclip trick' - APH Networks

You should really google things up first.
