Default Well good news I can buy a new psu to replace this one

Well since my GF's psu died I can replace the psu in this computer to have one available for a server I'm going to make, because the psu I bought for my new rig won't run 2x 8800gt thanks for the feedback everyone =).So I'll get a 750 or 800 watt top shelf psu for this machine and use a 500 watt in server and place 550 in her pc. Hurray for upgrades

any input is appreciated thanks =)
Hopefully its worth all the expenditure to you to run 2 video cards but from people I know who have done it they have since sold the second card claiming the end result isn't justified.
it just wasn't worth doing in the end.
but maybe you will have better luck.
I have never done it as I don't have the time or inclination to game.

My 2 EVGA 8800GT Akimbo SC in SLI work very well and for reference I am currently using an Antec Neopower 550w on practically the same system and speeds (Less GPU speeds). SLI works only as well as the drivers allow them too and the game that you are playing are coded to scale dual video cards. You will see depending on the games you play roughly 20%-60% in an increase of framerate, but more importantly the advantages of SLI are shown at higher resolutions for example 1680x1050, playing at 1024x768 makes little sense if you are running SLI. Its not that you will see an increase in FPS in most cases, but where you increase visual enhancements such as FSAA or AF you will see less of impact and more playable framerates at higher resolutions. If you're still stuck with that old 19" 4:3 LCD with its native 1280x1024 then SLI isn't really neccessary with an 8800GT as it will play most games with maxed visual settings and some FSAA untill you consider upgrading to a 22"-24" widescreen LCD.

Another thing to note is that there are some games out there that take advantage of dual monitors, If your into one of those kinds of games SLI is useless as you can only run a single monitor with SLI enabled. I've got SLI on a rig i just built and have only seen 2000 more 3dmarks in 06 and zero advantage in Flight simulator X. both flight sim and supreme commander (the two games i play most!!) are dual monitor friendly and recieve no benifit to sli that i could tell.

Being honest with you, having sli for me is bragging rights and thats about it. luckly it didnt cost me more to have it.
