Ya know I have the TX750 and I wondered if I should have held out for the 1000 watt version.. I'm glad I didn't because of the the huge price difference and the modular cabling doesn't bother me at all I just hide the cables I dont use. I,m just going to go for a single top end card and save myself from the problems of sli or crossfire. The one thing I really do like to see is the interior shots.. They can tell so much about the quality of parts and the quality of construction..

What is nice to see is a company like Corsair entering the power supply market and hitting home run after home run... Good job Corsair.. Now some of the cae manufacturers are going to have to change their cases to accomidate these monsters.

Woo, i just installed this baby, i love it. I've never had a modular psu before, its def. worth the money. It is sure heavy now. it pushed my case to 50 pounds... well 49.4 but still :P

I'm thinking of building an i7 920 system and will need a new PSU. I have a few questions:

1. Is there such thing as having too big of a power supply in terms of energy use/efficiency? I will not be installing 2+ video cards (say 1 260 and 4 HDs). I thought I read somewhere that having these monster power supply units will draw more energy vs having a smaller one.
2. I think 1KW may be overkill for my use. Is there a power supply you guys recommend that is say in the 600-800W range?

Everybody and their dog runs Corsair TX750s and I haven't heard too many complaints. The PC P&C 750W silencer is another favorite choice. (Look at that... I'm running one of each.... :) ).

If you want modular, chances are the Corsair 620W will be enough power for what you intend, but my personal preference is to always go a bit over to be on the safe side.

The HX620W would have no problem running your rig; my old setup consisted of an oc'ed Q9450 (3.8), dual HDDs and a 280GTX. It ran flawlessly, while both folding (GPU) and crunching (CPU).

And yes, for my new rig I too will use a TX750W...
