Corsair AX750 Or AX850 Here is my current system: CPU: AMD Phenom II 970 (Planning to upgrade to FX 8350 in the future) MOTHERBOARD: Asus Crosshair IV GPU: AMD HD 5870 (Planning to upgrade to a single HD 7990/7970 in the future) RAM: 4x2GB Domintor GT (CMT4GX3M2A1866C9) 1xSSD Force GT 60GB 5xHDDs WD Caviar Black 2x2TB 3x1TB 1 DVD Combo Drive 1 Blu-Ray Combo Drive 9 Led Fans (120mm) 3 Regular Fans (1x140mm,2x80mm) Right now I'm using an ULTRA 1000W(I bought it a long time ago when I made my first build). Need something more efficient for my current build. I've used a couple of online PSU calculators and they gave me roughly 600-700W range. So should I go with the 750W or the 850W to be safe? Thanks |
If you run a single 7970 a 750 will be lots, it will start to get a little stressed with two of them in there with any overclocking. A 7990 or crossfire get the 850 to be safe. |
I only plan a single gpu system, 2 would be too much noise for me. Leaning towards the 850W now only $20 more and a bit more future proof if i do decide on crossfire. Thanks BlueByte |
If it's only 20 bucks more yeah I would go with the 850. Why not. On a side note though imo it doesn't offer the future proof that much considering newer gen more powerful cards actually consumer less power then their predecessors. |
that's very true, I'm going to wait a couple of weeks to see if it goes on sale black friday. Thanks Pabz0r545 |
I'd wait a bit before grabbing an AX anything right now. The AX series are being phased out slowly for the new DSP Designed AXi models. If you are in no rush (since your system has ample power from the X3 PSU) wait for them to launch. Probably some of the best units out there if you look at how the AX1200i was designed. -ST |
I'm not really in a rush, will probably wait maybe until boxing day. Maybe the ax760/ax860 will go on sale. |

agree on waiting for a sale, since you are in no rush. And also with 750w for a 7970, or 850w for the 7990 |
Thinking I need more fans around my 7970s in xfire I Furmarked and prime95ed my rig tonight. Tech if you ran both full bore you would be pushing the 850 as well... peak was around 800watts. Still waiting on my 8350, but I have a 8150(OCed) in it right now so power will be close. So if there is a chance of OCing and crossfire down the road I would go bigger then even the 850. If you run stock everything the 850 will be fine. |
