what size and brand of unit to get
I looking to power this
i7 950 1366 socket keeping qpi at 133
gigabyte g1 sniper x58
Kingston hyperx black 12gb ddr3 3x4gb 1600mhz
three 470 gtx's
sata3 1tb drive
water pump as video cards and cpu are liquid cooled.
No overclocking planned.
Was looking at
SeaSonic X-1250 or OCZ ZX Series 1250W
If anyone has input for a better choice or size would be helpfull
I am currently using an Enermax revolution 85+ 1050, it will no longer run 3 470 or 2 470 GTX's.
I find it odd that the Revo won't do the job as that shouldn't be at its limit, and Enermax units are generally speaking solid.
If you really want to go all out. AX1200i. Probably the best platform (flextronics) you can get.
The OCZ unit there is an alright PSU. I powered 3 470's with it as well a while back and had no issues. Its definitely not the best 1200W unit around but It can usually be had for a very reasonable price.
Of the 2 the seasonic would be my pick for sure. Cost is a point to consider though. What is your budget?
I am looking to stay under $300.00. I am open to other brands and size that would work. My 1050w may have aged and no longer able to run 2 470 gtx.
I don't follow higher power PSU, but this seems like a decent deal if you want to keep costs a bit cheaper than your $300 mark.
Corsair HX1050w for $180 and free shipping.
Corsair Professional Series HX1050 1050W ATX 12V 87A 24PIN ATX 80PLUS Silver Modular Power Supply
EDIT: Its $220 at memoryexpress, so you could price beat and get it for $170 and also get them to match the free shipping.
I know you have the other thread about troubleshooting, but make sure you have tried everything with your current PSU before you go for a new one...swap all the cards around, etc.
Yes I really do not want to change the unit out. A single gpu set up may just be the easier thing to do.
I have tried all 3 cards in all different order 3way and 2way sli.
I would at least get a good 1000watt or higher if you are running a TRi set-up of three GTX-470's because they draw around 215watts and more when overclocked probally around 750watts .I had a i7-920 clocked to 4.2gigs and three GTX-470's clocked to 800/3800 in a tri-sli setup.I used a CoolerMaster 1100watt UCP and it worked just fine. The SeaSonic X-1250 would be the one I would get between then two.The crosair 1200 AX and thier are other good brands like SilverStone ,But I would get one that is over a 1000watts because those GTX-470's suck the power.
Yes I did this http://www.enermax.outervision.com/
Turns out 850w would be enough but for everyday use for 1+ years 850x30% and I am maxing out the 1050w I have, so the SeaSonic X-1250 looks to be a good choice.
I used that on my old system with a i7-920 clocked at 4.2gigs and 3 gtx-470s with a gigabyte UD5 and all the other stuff and It said I needed a 998watt powersupply but my 1100watt UCP CoolerMaster did the job just fine .I went to a i7-3820 and ASRock X79 Extreme-4 with two GTX-670 in sli and it was faster then all three of my GTX-470's and used around 240 watts less power. That SeaSonic X-1250 should work just fine.
