another adequate wattage question...

i bet y'all are sick and tired of "is X watts enough for this build?" type of questions but please bare with me. :)

i'm planning to put together a build that may look something like this:
- intel core i5-3570k (assume 2500k power consumption though it will obviously be less)
- a normal motherboard with the z75 chipset
- amd radeon hd7850 2gb
- a hdd and a ssd

i'm planning to use a corsair tx650m.
i know for a fact that this will be way more than enough for the parts i listed above.

how about if i overclocked the cpu to like... 4.5ghz and overclock the gpu quite a bit?
how about if i did all of that and added a second 7850?

I've always found this to be a help when trying to estimate or get an idea.
Unfortunately it hasn't been updated to reflect the new Radeon 7000 series or the new i5s yet, but give it a shot, see what it says.

Those are useless.

650w will be fine. I may suggest a 700 or 850 if you plan to add anything tho.

650w is plenty even with the overclock. The only way you will need more is if you start adding multiple graphics cards.

I agree that those power supply calculators are typically useless, there has been the odd one or two that is fairly accurate however they never truly are (my project, to essentially build a better one is currently in limbo).

Also, if you can afford it get the extra headroom, otherwise you may regret it down the line if you want to run something more power hungry on the same psu.
