Default Power Supply & Mother Board

Hello all, I have a HP Elite desk top , model # HPE-500F , that comes with a 300 watt power supply . My quistion is will a 550 watt cooler master extreme power plus kill my motherboard ? I just bought a Sapphire 6870 video card that requires 500 watts , The last time I used this 550 watt power supply I think it fried my old motherboard it was a HP a250n desk top . If you think it fried your old mb, then it's time to use a sledgehammer on that PSU. And buy a new one.

Hello all and @The Four Horsemen ,I bought a OCZ ZT 650watt PSU . So far it 's all good as of January 4 2012.

What's with all the Four Horsemen comments?... Using a higher wattage PSU than needed won't fry your motherboard. It just means that it's capable of pushing out that much power. Doesn't mean it'll shoot 550watts at your computer continually. This is unless your PSU is defective of course.
