Default enough to SLI GTX 480s

Hey guys, I have i7 2600k clocked at 4.5ghz at 1.36v. Is a AX850 good enough to SLI GTX 480's?

the AX 850 can do a fair bit above it's limit but you are bumping up close to max there especially with the OC 2600K. Are the 480s overclocked? Do you use them to crunch/Fold? What else is in the machine?

If they are stock 480s I'd put your max consumption (full load) with a couple drives at just under 800 watts...not the most efficient but well within the AX 850's limits.

Sandybridge Processors use almost nothing for power compared to older Core 2s. With a 850 you'll have no issues whatsoever on that system even if the processor is overclocked.

The 1366 socket uses more power then SB when overclocked, though so does the 480 compared to the 580. From this and my own personal experience I would highly recommend going up to a 1kW power supply if you plan to overclock everything.

At 1.375V vCore + 580s rather heavily overclocked themselves they can pull more then 950W from the wall.

To give you some idea; my 850W Seasonic powers 2x480's, 2600k@4.7 (1.45v), 2 pumps, 10 or so fans, and some lighting.

While running f@h on the gpus and -smp 7 on the cpu (90%)...draw is right around 700W.

Yah, it probably would not cross 850 Watts, I hate running up to the edge of my PSU ratings though. Corsair says 950+ for that configuration.
