My System Specs

Default Thermaltake Toughpower 1000w - Good?

I've read and heard mixed opinions on Thermaltake PSUs

I'm doing a rebuild (tax return FTW) and I need a PSU that will run 2x3870x2's along with most of the other stuff in my sig rig and overclocking on water cooling.

I like the modularity as well.

I guess there are a few options for the bigtime PSUs

PCP&C (I only put the 1200W up because it's $10 difference in price)

Is the 1000W ATPQ a cranked up version of the 850W, or are the components scaled up properly for the extra load (forgive my complete lack of PSU terminology)

I have one here and after reviewing the 850W I can say without a doubt that the components are scaled accordingly. That being said, there is not that large of a component jump for the extra 150W needed to get to 1Kw.

Ok... so now I have a lot of options.

Which do I pick?

I like the idea of a modular PSU just for neatness' sake. But I'll take stability and performance over neatness if I have to choose between the two.

Here is the main question: are you willing to pay $500 for the PCP&C or $200 for the Quattro. IMO, in your case I would go with the Quattro unless you are going with something absolutely nuts like an overclocked Skulltrail platform with three 9800GX2 cards.

If you can wait a week or two I can have the Quattro 1Kw I have ready to ship out to you for even more savings. :D

Haha

Not that nuts.

Maximus Formula

QX9650

So you don't recommend the Thermaltake?

My issues with the Thermaltake stem from the fact that it has quite short cables. Look at my SwordM review...they didn't even reach to where I wanted them without cable extenders...

Hmm.

And the Antec will deliver the performance and consistency of the others? It's a lot cheaper....

The Olympia doesn't impress you either?

I'm not saying the Olymipa doesn't impress me. Heck, this Zeus 1200W impresses the hell out of me but jesus....$500 on a PSU. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that one.
