My System Specs

Default PSU I think I'll Be Over 1k

so for the last little while I've been buying bits and pieces and upgrading my rig. now however i feel that my current psu is going to be the weakest link.

right now, I'm running a tx750 corsair, and does a good job.
quick rundown;
1 x crosshair IV (or v still undecided which is best)
1 x 1090t (with cpu block)
4 x 2gigs 1600 ddr3
2 x 4870x2 (both with blocks)
2 x 1tb black caviar's
2 x 64gb kingston ssd
1 x bluray drive
1 x fan controller
2 x d5 pumps
10 x 120mm high performance fans (avg. 10w per fan)
1 x Antec big boy fan

Now obviously some things are not installed yet, but you get the picture of what it will be like when everything will be installed. and yes I do overclock as much as I can.

according to the Antec power supply calc. i'm over 1200w already, but what do you geniuses think?

I've read good things about the HX1000 at hardware secrets saying its good up to over 1500 watts and its modular.

sorry if this got a bit long, but i like to be thorough.

I think a decent quality 1kW PSU should do you fine.

Although I'd strongly recommend buying new GPUs too. Those 4870X2's aren't that great performance wise, and quad-fire really doesn't sound fun to me. I had enough issues with crossfire and 5870s so I can't imagine driver support on even older cards.

I ran crossfired 4870x2's on a 850W Antec Quattro, with more fans and a more hungry CPU. I'd say 1000W is fine.

hey thanks, I was thinking along those lines. To completely honest i love these graphics cards, and think they preform awesome never have any issues, and have various tips on the best ccc's to get the best quadfire preformance.

After over a year of contemplation i think its time to pull the trigger on an hx1000.

i guess the only thing left to decide is crossfire IV vs. crossfire V, time to do some digging. thanks again!

well, if you were to consider 2 6950's 2 gigers unlockable or not, and if you were to check reviews
and see the spanking they provide when working as a pair at 5760 times whatever...ooooooo

sell your 4870x2's asap! before they lose even more value! and for the next pair you wont need to change psu!

and get dx11..and so on!

to be honest, after these, I'm likely head towards nvidea, give it a try as i've never had any, but that's getting off topic.

I'm thinking a 1kw is good to have regardless, just to have some extra headroom if i switch to a more efficient card later on.

Corsair HX 1kW is a very good PSU......had one previous to my AX 1.2

Yeah, ditch those 4870x2's and get something more efficient w DX11 ;)

Agree with both cases

1 (the Corsair PSU is great specially the 1000HX (I own one) You'll notice I power a lot of my stuff with Corsair :)

Also recommend you try to sell and then buy newer stuff (video card wise)

I doubt you'll go much above 850w with that setup, personally
