I think that one calculator mentioned is shooting figures that are just a little high. I know for my build it just told me I need a 750W minimum and if I added another 580 I would need 1100 minimum.

Now my APC is telling me that I am using about 200W at idle and about 280ish during most games.

Asus PSU calculator says that HDD and DVD burners use 50w each. Seems unlikely.

Punched in my old system that my power meter said drew 293w at load.

Antec says 309. Fairly accurate I'd say.

I'd take any number a calc gives you and add 100 just to be safe

If your system is using a lot of power, you want to buy a 80+ certified PSU. You also want to run it at or near 50% load to optimize efficiency. Of course, if you don't use your PC 12 hours a day, then the power cost will not be to bad. Four hours a day @ 1kw power consumption is 115$ a year in my region.
