Default PSU Coil whine ?

I have this system which has this high pitch noise that bugs me. I believe it comes from the PSU. It does it just about all the time, but today I noticed that it did not do it while folding. That makes no sense to me since while folding the PSU should be used more.

The PSU is the Corsair CX400. The system is quite lightweight: i3 530, GT 240.

Any solution to that ?

Will have to check it out, but that will be next week :(

When folding, it is GPU folding, so I am not sure...

k. im thinking if you put a load on it it stabilizes. it'd be interesting to see whats it pulling at the wall before and after.

GT240's aren't known for coil whine AFAIK, and I've never heard of a Corsair psu (or any other psu for that matter) with audible coild whine.

It could be something else entirely, and that's just my opinion.

What motherboard are you using? There are known incompatibilities with certain advanced C-states on higher quality motherboards and high quality power supplies like the ones made by Seasonic. The CX 400 should be a Seasonic unit, the rest are CWT IIRC.

As far as I'm concerned, its not the GPU, its not the mobo either, the sound really appeared to be coming from the PSU.

The mobo is a Gigabyte H57M-USB3.

many of my seasonic and corsair psus have very audible coil whine.
try changing c states and energy saving features on your motherboard.

Like I said it's a known incompatibility with the C-states on certain higher quality boards causing higher quality PSUs to whine.

Google "Seasonic coil whine with Gigabyte board," you'll find plenty of results. It's not an issue with all Gigabyte boards, as boards from other brands with higher quality parts present with issues with Seasonic made power supplies as well. It's not exactly accurate to say it's a Seasonic issue either, just an incompatibility between two quality parts.
