Antec PSU size fit

Hi there guys:

I am seriously considering spending some of my hard earned cash to purchase an Antec Quatro TPQ-850w PSU. I was told by one of the sales people at the store I plan to order it from (I live in Nicaragua, Central America)that the unit is pretty large and won't fit inside my current Micro-ATX case. The thing is, I don't want to shell out another wad of cash to buy a larger, more expensive case unless I really need to. Is it true that this psu will not fit inside a regular micro-atx case? or this sales guy just jerking my chain so I buy a new, 70 plus-dollar mid-tower case from his store?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

What case are you using right now? The 850W Quatro is a standard sized (ATX) power supply. A quick google shows that its dimensions are 8cm (L), 15cm (W) and 9cm (D). It should fit as long as you aren't using something like a slim-mATX case with proprietary psu's.

well...I couldn't really tell you the case's brand because I really don't know where it's at. But it's the case that came when I bought with my old Core2Duo rig. It fits the Asrock Micro-ATX motherboards I have had including the G31M-S that I have bought last year, without any trouble at all.

Mu current Kmex 650w switching power supply fits in without any trouble too

I don't know if that is enough info for anybody else to add a suggestion though:sad:

you can always take a picture.

some cases have liek a bar or like a 'lip' that will make it either hard or impossible to install the
psu without taking the mobo out first

Use a ruler and measure your case... Dangtx and I just gave you some figures.

And wow! I must be really off on the size of the unit...I pulled those numbers here. Probably best to go with Antec's website.

yeah, its one of the bigger heavier units :p

I would actually suggest measuring the current power supply and comparing it to the dimensions of the TPQ850 rather than measuring the case.

The ATX standard (2.2) is only 14cm (D) so it may indeed be too deep for the case.

If your psu is the Kmex PG-650W, you should be ok. From what I can tell, the TPQ 850 has the same height and width. It's 4cm longer though. Both psu's are ATX 2.2.
