SKYMTL : How is this PSU? Silverstone Strider ST1000

Silverstone Strider ST1000 1000W Modular Power Supply ATX 20/24PIN 135MM Fan High Efficiency Black

Hi SKYMTL how is this PSU compared to other 1000W ones?
I have an eye on this because of space restrictions otherwise i would go with the 1200W Decathlon.

Personally, I have to say that I think the Strider platform was pushed too far at 850W, let alone 1Kw. Jonny reviewed the 850W version here:

He even found that the platform was being pushed at 850W.

If you are going for 1Kw PSUs, I would recommend the Silverstone OP1000, PCP&C Turbo Cool ($$$$) or the Thermaltake Toughpower series. Or, you could go for broke and get the granddaddy of them all: the Silverstone Zeus 1200W.

Having a bit of an inside view through your review items suppliers..... do you think the 8 pin vid card plug is a thing of the past?

Nowhere....yet. Supposedly some retailers will be getting it within the next week to two weeks.

Good question.

The answer is no. The only reason manufacturers are still using the 6-pin standard is because their cards do not require the necessary power for an 8-pin or that they just wanted to keep backwards compatability.

Remember, the 8800-series was released before the 8-pin standard was approved by the PCI-SIG. So, we have yet to see a "new generation" high-end card. My thought is that when we see these new cards on the market (whenever they will be coming, only God knows) you will see some going 8-pin ONLY.

From the photos you have all seen the new RV680 dual GPU card will have an 8-pin and a 6-pin connector and I am reasonably sure you will see the new Nvidia dual GPU card with the same layout.

Yeah..I want an answer to enaberif's question... like wtf are you gonna do with an 1200w psu?..Plug in a cow?
