Good question.
The answer is no. The only reason manufacturers are still using the 6-pin standard is because their cards do not require the necessary power for an 8-pin or that they just wanted to keep backwards compatability.
Remember, the 8800-series was released before the 8-pin standard was approved by the PCI-SIG. So, we have yet to see a "new generation" high-end card. My thought is that when we see these new cards on the market (whenever they will be coming, only God knows) you will see some going 8-pin ONLY.
From the photos you have all seen the new RV680 dual GPU card will have an 8-pin and a 6-pin connector and I am reasonably sure you will see the new Nvidia dual GPU card with the same layout.
