Powering GTX480 SLI + overclocked I7

I will be building a SLI GTX 480 + i7 Overclocked and I am currently uising a silvestone strider 850 W. Will it cut it ? I suppose it is getting close....

Ncix has the antec Quatro 1000 W in special this week, I suppose it would work, but would it be better ?

Your 850W will be plenty fine.

expect around 650 watts for the cards furmarked, or around 525-550 w in normal gaming mode and maybe 200-250 for the cpu, depending on the maddness level of oc :)

so itll be ok in normal gaming mode.

ive seen dual 480's on corsair 850 watt models(non modular)

yeah, I tought so for normal usage, fodling would make it close.. altough I could fold on one of the GPU only if it become a real problem....

I know many may disagree....if Z_ro was here he'd blast me...but in all honesty...an OC'd I7....OC'd 480 SLi arrangement...I'd drop a 1 kW PSU in their....

It seems to me that somewhere I read a 1000w should be used when running 480s in sli. Newer psus are more energy efficient as well.

I had a pair of 5970s in xfire, with multiple fans and HDDs and my corsair 1000w never even got warm. A good psu will handle a lot of power draw, but I think a bit extra leeway is better for your system and the psu.

Remember that this is one component that should never be skimped on, and a bigger psu will handle future upgrades easily. Just mho.

True, and still some PSU's hit their Highest Efficency numbers at 50-70% Draw (My Silverstone ones do at least, 88% I think around there).

And it never hurts to go overkill on a PSU. I'll take running something at half its rated capacity over something at 90% anyday.

That being said get a newer platform for a PSU, the NZXT Hale90's are damn good Superflower units that would not disappoint.

Any good 750+ watt good quality psu should run those. Get a corsair.
