Thats a kick....too funny really...what is it too old for ?

.my HX 1kW runs the Rig in my Sig just fine and is all you really need for an I7 @ 4.2 Ghz and Sli 480's.......certainly not needed for Sli 470's.......with your Sli 470's a decent 850W is more than suffice. Hell the AX 1.2 kW is for running an OC'd I7 and Tri Sli 480's.....
The HX 1000 is a good unit, but why get it when there will be more efficient PSU's around the corner? Thats all im saying when I mentioned it was "old". I know a 850W is enough, but im thinking more long term and future proof. The most upgradable parts in my PC machines have always been GPU's. When ATI/Nvidia's next new series is released at least I know I will be able to run 2 or 3 GPU's fine. Although I do thank you for advising me that I might be wasting my money, as I have seen many people get a 1000W unit and only run one GPU. But I have future plans in my mind that you obviously cannot read

Hey man, i own a HX1000 but want to upgrade (maybe), would you go for the AX1200 or the Silverstone Strider 1500? I really like the cables on the AX1200 how they are all black.

I just ordered my AX 1.2 kW yesterday (from HX 1 kW).....nv recommends the AX 1.2 kW for Tri Sli 480's, along with OC'd I7 980X thats good enough for me.....the Strider 1.5kW for 4 x 480's and WC....I chose the AX over the Strider ;)

It can be had for $277 which is a great price.

I would go with the Strider. There are some QC issues with the AX1200 as of now, and the two PSUs are similarly-priced.

u knoe the strider is on sale at ncix for 299.99

http://ncix.com/products/?sku=39436&...y&promoid=1053

but if corsair made a 1500 i would buy that in a heartbeat
wow your tri 480 will suck alot of juice i read somewhere its near the 1000w mark for just the 3 cards running at load. you sure you'll have enough for your cpu(with oc) ?

I just checked the Corsair Support Forum and a number of complaints re: whining coils / noisy fan, some of the complainers had HX 1 kW units previously.......huh...couple of folks stating their units are quiet.....we'll see when I get mine....could be bad batches I suppose, as Zero stated......I did have to RMA my 1st HX, 2nd one has been fine.

Keep my fingers crossed and keep my HX until I test the AX ;) Sure hope the AX doesn't turn into a fiasco, as I was originally going to go with the Strider 1.5.

btw....nv's recomended PSU's are always way overkill for what is actually required....if they list AX 1.2 kW for Tri 480's I'm confident that is fine...my Sli 480's with a 920 @ 3.83 Ghz is drawing about 900W from the wall, so all would be good with a 3rd Card and 980X at 4.4 - 4.6
