I know LUCID HYDRA could allow for a mix between nVIDIA and ATI....

All X58 motherboards support Crossfire. SLI is just included in the model name of that motherboard, most likely because EVGA is an nVidia partner and wants to push people to buy EVGA cards and use them in SLI.
