Default Quattro 850W - Upgrade?

I want to know if it's worthwhile for me to upgrade to probably another 850W unit, but from a different brand.

I have nearly the first revision of the Antec Quattro TruePower 850W, I think it's the one where they fixed the NVIDIA issues. It's not the current revision that's 80Plus Bronze with more amperage on the rails for sure. It also suffers from that high-pitched wine (which I know isn't a problem) from time-to-time depending on load of course. I also despise of the sleeving on it, those big clunky plastic things they used instead of heatshrink just make cable management that much more difficult. Otherwise it's been a solid PSU and also has stayed silent fan wise. I think I've had it for over a year now too.

However, I can feasibly fix the sleeving myself, maybe even do up some totally custom cables with only the connectors I need and in the right places. At the same time though, that'll probably end up around $100 to do (or more if I go the "MurderMod" route), in which case, maybe I should just get a newer 850W that has better cabling.

So far I'm looking at the Corsair HX850 or the Silverstone Strider Plus 850W. Both are solid units it seems, and the Silverstone is rather cheap considering it's performance and modularness.

I suppose I could drop down to a 750W, but I might as well keep the extra headroom I think. Planning on a 6-core, X58 (or newer), and at least a HD5870 (Fermi?) in the near future.

(I have money burning a hole in my pocket, thus why I'm considering this )

I reach a point where I don't spent too much anymore, I wait also for see what happen with the 6 cores and the fermi, they have to many new thing now and to come. just take the Sata3, I'm sure Intel will came with a new chipset, so I don't spent for a x58 board now. I will suggest you buy the stick minimum of what you need for now, and keep your cash for next spring.

Definitely want modular, and I don't believe I need more wattage. As for the XFX, it performs well but the look of it just doesn't grab me. If it was blue instead of green, I would consider it.

Next spring? Don't you mean this spring? This summer, I'm overhauling my whole PC no matter what. I've had this X3350 + X38 board for too long

You could upgrade to a 1000W or 1200W PSU and be set for a long time. HX1000 is pretty popular, but there's a BFG 1200W for not much more.

lol, I don't know about that

I'd probably sell it for a rather reasonable price though. I still have the box and all the cables too. The more I look at the HX850, the more I want it...

That HX850 is awesome. Very efficient.
