Default 9-Way 850W Power Supply Roundup Comment Thread

As prices for quality power supplies fall, products that were once out of reach are now accessible to consumers who are on a budget. With the ever-increasing power demands of the most modern components, 850W PSUs have become one of the “sweet spots” for the current market. Today we look at nine such units; some offer a budget friendly solution while others are uncompromising in every way.

WOW SKY! Back in business! And what comeback! Superb roundup man.
I'm still happy with my Signature even it's not so efficient by today's standards.
Silverstone, what a pleasant surprise.
It looks like CWT PSH it's over-stretched.
Seasonic/XFX share same platform and both are damn good.
Revo85+ is a top PSU. Again.
CM use FSP. Bleah.
And Ultra X4 is a mixed bag.

Just a question. It's possible (sometimes in future) to see a more human 500-550W roundup? Those 800+ monsters are useless for 90% of users so something more close to daily use it will be very useful. At least I think so.

Thanks again for your round-up, you have no idea how much I've missed your reviews.

Expect 500W - 600W, 750W and 1Kw roundups sometime next year. ;)

Yeah, I thought people would like that. There are so many PSU reviews out there but very few ways to compare cable lengths. We'll hopefully be adding this feature to the HWC Charts beta soon.

Can't wait for the 750W round-up. Hope the Strider 750 Plus is just as good as the 850 reviewed. Thanks Sky, your work is greatly appreciated!

Excellent review SKY! I actually read it from cover to cover instead of shooting through to the conclusion, well done! The cable length info is a super addition. I remember buying my OCZ GameXtreme 600 watter and thinking, "I will never need more power than this" Now I will not buy under 850 watts. This review is a welcome addition for the consumer, and will make an informed decision prior to buying a 850 watt psu much easier.

Great job man, I can only imagine the amount of work that goes into something like this. I love the cable length section and your testing metho is top notch.

Im quite pleased with my purchase of the Antec Signature from the vreg and ripple results! I am going to use this PSU in my test bench instead on the Tagan 900W. 15 ripple vs. 42 FTW.

On a side note, the Seasonic M12D 850 watt psu is going to be featured in NCIX's Boxing Day sale. Hope for a good price!
