My System Specs

Default 305W for q6600 and 3870?

Well I'm thinking of upgrading my families Dell for christmas so was looking at buying a new CPU, MB and using an old gpu. Would the stock dell 305w be able to handle the load? It would not be oc'd

I wouldn't in all honesty.

Dells are good for being fairly beefy in the PSU..but 305...no too low.
Get a VX450.

Maybe it would work, but I definitively wouldn't take the chance. The 3870's minimum system requirements are higher than that, I believe the requirements are 450W and 26A for the GPU.

you can probably boot the PC, but as soon as your load the CPU or GPU the PSU might fry.

since it's an old PSU you need 348 watts according to the Antec PSU calculator ( base on max aging capacitors. ) anyway I guess this PSU do not have a PCIe connector

don't risk it. not worth taking the chance that it takes some thing with it ( unlikely but you never know )

You'd be much better off with a newer low end GPU, and even then you're pushing it.

GPU doesn't matter really. All my family would do is play youtube videos or some game like farmville. Damn, this project is turning more and more expensive
