Test System & Setup

Processor: Intel Core i7 920(ES) @ 4.0Ghz (Turbo Mode Enabled)
Memory: Corsair 3x2GB Dominator DDR3 1600Mhz
Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD5
Cooling: CoolIT Boreas mTEC + Scythe Fan Controller
Disk Drive: Pioneer DVD Writer
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB
Power Supply: Corsair HX1000W
Monitor: Samsung 305T 30 widescreen LCD
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
This is the test setup when SKYMTL did the 5870 test, at load it the whole system drew 349W.
On the other hand, the same setup w/ a GTX 295 drew 493W.

Considering the HX520 is a solid PS I wouldn't think it would have trouble running a 5870. In fact, it could run the GTX 295 most likely, but personally I wouldn't want to cut it that close.

From the wall. And that system is also a heavily-overclocked i7 rig, compared to the OP's E8400. When you factor that in, even a GTX295 would still have plenty of headroom left with an HX520.

Holy shit what do I have a 750W for? I could run a dual 295 setup with a w/c loop and an OC'ed i7! WTF I had a 450W that couldn't run a 4850 with a Q6600 and one HDD and one DVD drive...but a 295 on a 520W is possible.

Oh man, I'm such a noob...

Yep, put a Nehalem and OC a little and you're fine too.
BTW it's not a Raidmax 520 it's a Seasonic 520.
