Is the corsair HX850 enough?

Hi,

I want to know if the corsair hx850 is enough for my build.

-EVGA X58 Classified
-Intel core i7
-OCZ 6GB RAM
-EVGA GTX 260 core 216 (2 of them in SLI)
-2 WD 1 TB Caviar Blacks in RAID 0
-1 OCZ 60GB Vertex SSD
-Coolermaster HAF 932
-DVD Burner
-FAN Controller
-Card reader
-1 cold cathode lighting

Ya, i have speakers, monitor, keyboard and mouse but that doesnt really need the PSU.

I wanted to know if the corsair HX850 would be enough for this build.

I read on some websites that you might need a 1000W PSU.

But, if 750 is enough right now, i would want to get a 850 (in case i add some more components in the future; scalability)

I ran a similar rig as yours with an oc'ed i7 to 4.1, and dual 260s with shaders oc'ed and the kit water-cooled with a TX750W.

And it was powerful enough to run all this while Folding (100% usage on CPU and both GPUs).

The HX750 is plenty for that rig even taking into account future expansion. I know people who have run rigs with three 9800GX2s off of 750W PSUs with no problems, and those have considerably more power consumption than GTX260s.

Corsair like many of the best are very conservative w/ their power numbers and can output at the max all day long. Some say a 750 corsair = 1k mid grade unit = 1.2 cheap unit....but that might be overstating things a smidgen.

With that being said if YOU are not comfortable with "only" the 750....get the 850. IMHO peace of mind is priceless. ;)

IIRC Hx750/850 are CWT's and thus GREAT kit. Good choice.

even the 750w is more then enough. A _quality_ 550w will handle that config as it stands (you wont be SLI-ing your video cards afterward tho).

I would say 750w=900w=1.1KW. If you look on the label, Corsair PSU's usually put out a combined wattage (all rail wattages combined) of at least 50-150w over the rated wattage. Add on peak load to that and you would be able to game (not fold, as it doesn't spike power consumption much) while drawing around a 850-900W peak load on a 750W PSU.

The combined maximum output of the PSU is not equal to the sum of the individual rails' combined maximums. And you should never exceed a PSU's rated wattage, since even if it can handle the load, chances are that several of its components are being placed under conditions exceeding their specifications which can and probably will lead to early failure.
