Default TaoTec??

I'm looking for a PSU for my HTPC that I am bulding and I found this PSU at a local computer store for $57.00 The only problem is I've never heard of it and I did a search on Google and didn't find much.

It is a TaoTec 500W

PC Cyber - Item

Maybe our resident PSU Guru SKYMTL might be able to shed some light on this PSU.

Looks/sounds like a cheapo brand. Website isn't loading right now so I can't see it.

For a HTPC, try the Antec EarthWatts 380W (430W if you need it). It's what I have in mine. Pretty cheap and works well.

I will look into the Antec EarthWatts. PC Cyber has a 430W for $73.00

While I trust PCCyber, as I generally shop there, I don't trust Taotec. My friend got a Taotec laptop and it was very cheaply made. They are pretty ghetto. The Antec should serve you well!

I was also looking at the Thermaltake TR2 380W or 430W as well. I've read a few reviews and they were pretty good.

Many people are going to say to pass on those Tt PSUs. Especially the TR2 series. I've heard many reports of them blowing up.

Stick with a quality brand like Antec, Enermax etc.

BTW, at Canada Computers until Sept 2, theres a $25 MIR on the Antec 430W
Canada Computers - Power Supplies/Management > Desktop Power Supplies : Antec EARTHWATTS POWER SUPPLY EA430 430W ATX V2.0 APFC 80PLUS ROHS.
Only $6.99 shipping too, so it would still be cheaper than PCCyber

I would say AVOID. As a rule of thumb, if you can't find them on Google don't buy their power supplies.
