Default 8 Pin 12V ATX Connector
Hey guys, I used to use a P5Q-Pro and it could overclock my Q8300 like a champ. I'm now running a Maximus Formula and it seems to fail the overclock alot when booting up my pc.

Chilly once mentioned quite some time ago that I should be running an 8pin 12v ATX connector in my mobo and it should solve the problem.

I haven't done much with the overclock since then. Now I'm wanting to get some more performance from my cpu, instead of the stock 2.5ghz. 3.65 at 1.3v was nice back in the P5Q Pro days.

My PSU doesnt have an 8 pin atx connector, so im looking for a site that sells maybe a molex adapter for an 8pin atx connector if that even exists.

If anyone knows of where to find one, or if there is something I can rig up myself, I'd greatly appreciate it.

If your PSU doesn't have a proper 8 pin for that connector get a better PSU.

The 8pin provides better and more stable power to your board when your overclocking it.

Yeah an adapter does not help, all you're doing is splitting the power from 2 wires into 4.

Damn, I like the design of my current psu. The blue leds go with my case and watercooling. I don't even see any other psu's on ncix that have blue leds...

Personally I'd never touch a Xion PSU, but to each their own. OCZ GameXStream PSUs have blue LEDs in the fan, though non-modular. I think Antec might have some though.

To be honest though, the P5Q Pro will still do better. The X38 chipset kind of sucks with 45nm quads (look on XS and you'll see). The P45 fairs much, much better. You could flash it to the Rampage Formula BIOS but I didn't see any gains from doing so.

The xion was cheap back when i got it.
The maximus formula is flashed to rampage formula

I may have found a good deal on a Maximus Formula II, which is P45. That would probably be the best way to go imo.
