Talking is 520W enough? (it's the fault of the Q6600)

Hi there

My brother just came home with a Q6600 and a Corsair 520W to upgrade his rig: 2 gig of ram, 7900 gs ko, 3 sata hdd, 1 optical drive, 4x 120mm and a MCP655 in the future, so my question is, 520W is it enough?

Correct me If I'm wrong;

a Q6600 is ~ 105-110W loaded
7900 GS is roughly 90W
10W per HD/optical = 40
MCP655 is another ~ 12W
+ ram

I'm below 300W, right??
Thank you very much

Corsair 520w is pretty good power supply but I'm sure Sky will have something to maybe say.

My System Specs

Are you planning on overclocking?

That'll drive the power usage of the cpu up a fair bit.

Even if it's enough power to squeeze by, does the 520W have an 8 pin ATX_12V plug, or is it just a 4? 8 pin plugs apparently come into play big time once you get up to quad cores or Extremes.

If it were me, I'd upgrade to at least a 600W unless it was something like a PCP&C which I could trust to be 520W continuous.

You are perfectly fine with the Corsair 520W.

The corsair PSU's have been tested and shown extremely good results. The 620w version has been able to run 8800GTX in SLi. They have good quality parts, good amps, nice cable selection and modular. I have the 620w currently in a system that isn't demanding for it so I can't say how far they can be pushed. If in doubt and he can return it then go for a better one if you like but the 520w should be fine for now.

Hi guys!

I told him to return his HX520, and since I'm a good brother ordered him a Silverstone Olympia 650 instead so he don't have to worry if he upgrade later. and the price difference between the 620HX and the OP650 is $20 (express shipped.)
DC price rocks
