Default Recommend a QUIET psu please!

Hallo folks, i've got a bit of a question for you.

Having been out of the serious overclocking scene for several years due to secondary education means that my rig is ancient. Early c2d. Upgrade badly needed :)

My concern now however isn't speed or overclockability, it's actually silence.

Please recommend a nice ~500ish watt psu that is as quiet as possible. Needs to power an i7 rig up to 4+ ghz, 3 hdd's and a gtx260 :D

Thanks beavers!

Corsair VX550W should do you fine.

Any high-quality PSU will not be noisy. It's only the $20 PSUs that are IMO.

Here is an interesting article for you.

I would personally recommend going for more than 500w because of what you put in your computer and also because if your PSU isn't used at its maximal capacity, its fan will run slower and thus be quieter.

OCZ StealthXStream. I find it to be very quiet. The ATI X850XT is noisier than the PSU lol. And this is with the fan spinning at under 20%.

Geokilla have to stop you there, OCZ have one of the fuking badest fan controller I have every seen on the market. Big part of the time the fan is doing about 100%. seriously after the number of these guys I sent back to OCZ because the fan controller getting crazy and the PSU die of hot, it can't be called silent.

I have 2 OCZ SXS, both are inaudible, the case fans, CPU's heatsink are much louder.

Really now? I got the StealthXStream 500W that I was talking bout, and my own GameXStream 600W in my rig in sig. I dunno where the fan sound is coming from, but it's definitely pretty quiet down here. I could only hear the fan (again, no idea what fan is generating the sound) if it's dead silent. Oh, when I had the X850XT with my GameXStream 600W, again the X850XT was noisier than the PSU. And this was with the X850XT fan spinning at 20%. All in all, both OCZ PSUs are very quiet. Totally the opposite of your own experience.

@Op. The cheapest price I've seen for the OCZ StealthXStream 500W is under $40AR. I've seen it at that price numerous times too, so it's not a one-time hot deal kind of thing.

My GameXSteam 600W is quiet but not inaudible. You can definitely hear it if you stick your ear close by. Though a typical distance away, you can't hear it.
