Default Reccomendations for a UPS

Hello HWC Community,

I'm looking for some reccomendations for a UPS.

Recently lost a lot of work due to the stormy weather we've been having in Manitoba. Looking for 30 minutes to an hour of usage for a desktop computer, and possibly a few peripherals (tv, and blu-ray player). They won't all be running at the same time. Even just the computer would work; don't NEED the TV... just would be nice lol. Also not looking to spend an exorbitant amount of money, $250 would be about my range.

From the little bit of looking I've done this looks like the best option so far NCIX.com - Buy OPTI-UPS ES1500C UPS 1500VA 980W AVR Step Wave RJ11/RJ45 RS232/USB 8 Outlet - ES1500C In Canada..

Hm... from my experiance, UPS standard ground shipping is not bad. costs ~10 dollars to ship to anywhere in north america within 5-10 days.

OH WAIT! YOu meant Universal Power supply, NOT United Parcel Service LOL!

Uninterruptible power supply - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and when i first saw this thread, i thought you meant PSU... and then i read somethina bout powering a TV and i was like

I'm going to recommend you go with a sine wave (simulated or true) UPS. Step Wave UPSes sometimes have issues with certain setups, especially when you are adding AV equipment into the mix.

APC SmartUPS 1500VA
Active UPS, true sine wave.
You can often find it on sale for around $200 Canadian.

APC Smart-UPS 1500VA USB & Serial 230V

Depending on where you live, you may be able to find a refurb unit but with a NEW battery for the same price or even less.

QFT. You wanna hear some knarly sounds , hook up a a full Projector/Amp HT setup and have the power go out :(

I was doing an install at a customers house and power was tripped by another tradesperson on site and YUK. I would have ripped the cord out of the wall, but may have killed the bulb in the Projector.

I am having one of the PC Power & Cooling UPS units delivered to me. Seems to be an amazing unit for the price. TRUE Sine Wave, AVR, user selectable voltage output, user swappable patteries and OCZ's customer support.
