Default PSU for SLI

I'm looking at buying another GTX285 for a dual SLI setup and was wondering if my PSU is sufficient?

I currently have a Corsair CMPU-850TX and the specs are as follows:

+3.3V@30A, +5V30A, +12V@70A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@3A

The Corsair CMPSU-1000HX is on nVidia's approved list for dual GTX285's but they don't have any PSU's under 1000W on that list. The specs for the 1000HX are as follows:

+3.3V@30A, +5V30A, +12V1@40A, +12V2@40A -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@3.5A

So the only real difference in output between the two PSU's is that mine has 10w less on the 12V rail.

I found that a dual GTX285 setup uses 511w on full load, so I should be ok in that regard because my rig only has one hard drive, one optical drive and the case is a HAF (with one 120mm fan added); so it's fairly barebones.

I did contact XFX but they weren't much help at all. I'm thinking I'll be fine with my current PSU but what do you think?

I would think that PSU would be fine...

There are plenty of instances of people running dual GTX280's on the Corsair 750TX, so the more efficient 285's should be more than fine on the 850TX.

I take it you're looking for a power supply dedicated for GPU use only. Take a look here. Compact and plenty of juice in case you want to buy that third 285
FSP Booster X5 450Watt Multi-GPU Power Supply - DragonSteelMods
I hope this helps.

BTW, how is that V10 working for you? I've been interested in hearing from someone who is using one.

Thanks, I thought those recommended PSU's at nVidia were always on the high side, which of course is the safe side.
