Question for SKYMTL !!!! (or other PSU gods)

Hi SKYMTL,
Got to thank you for all those great reviews.
I would like to get your opinion on the following, and in reference with this post

You answered some post about this PSU:

The Retail+ 465Watts. You mentionned this was a cheap OEM product.
I do trust your jugement on PSUs or course, but something puzzles me...
The "465" watts number....not common at all...the only other (known to me anyway) 465 watts PSU is an older ENERMAX (EG465P-VE 465W PSU)...
You know what I'm getting at? The Ol' EG465 looks pretty much the same as the Retail+ psu shown on the box.

I need to replace a dead PSU in my old rig..reference my post on HWC:

Old rig died on me?

An AMD64 3400+, 1 Gig, a 7800GS AGP, 1HDD, 2 opticals, 2 X 80 fans...
So is there a chance that the cheapo Retail+ PSU (sold for 50$ at staples downtown)
could possibly be an ENERMAX???
If not, could it be good enough to power my old rig (wife & kid use only)...

Personally I would try and find something like this:

I don't trust no name brand power supplies.

I don't trust those either, but hey! It's not for MY rig...I got an Antec TP3 650 in mine, a little better!

But the thing is that retail plus models LOOKS so much like the Enermax model, and the 465Watts rating is not common...could it possibly be the same stuff? Or coming from the same OEM manufacturer that makes the ENERMAX?

465W isn't common but anyone can pull numbers out of thin air. Enermax doesn't OEM for anyone as far as I know.

Plus, everyone knows I am not a fan of older Enermax PSUs.

It's possible it could be the same as the Enermax but I never buy a PSU unless I can find a review on it or I really trust the brand. Often times the specs are misleading, and I prefer a reviewed unit myself. I highly doubt a similar wattage number means a similar PSU. I just googled "465 watt PSU" and came up with a "Safe Power" PSU: http://img364.imageshack.us/img364/7...37powerge2.jpg

Might be a fine PSU but I would not get it unless I could find a reputable review.

Lol yeah you're right...I quickly copied the link from a post to the pic...funny though, the PSU model linked is called ATX465W.

I think it's saying that +5v & +3.3v total is 230w max.. With 26A on the 12v rail, that's 312w right there.. far past the 230w max.

I still wouldn't want to go with a no name brand PSU IMO.

312w is STILL quite shy of 465 :P
