Default Looking for a power for new gaming pc

I decided to buy the following for a new gaming rig.
A help regarding choosing a power supply is what I need.
CPU: Core i7 920
Motherboard: Evga X58
Graphic Card: GTX 280 (X2) SLI
Case:Antec P182
RAM: not decided yet, gotta do some research.

The last time I bought a power was a long ago and I didn't keep up with new computer technology. It's actually frightening to have so many choices these days.
I don't know what are the dis/advantages of getting modular except for neatness.
Can I get by with this spec with having a 800W?
Any recommendation will be great.
Thanks for your help.

I would go with a corsair 1000W. It's a good price, reliable and has an awesome rep. Personally for me a 750W PSU wasn't enough to handle 2x8800ultra's. Also going a bit over what you need is always good that way the PSU isn't too close to load when gaming.

I'd have to agree, Corsair HX 1000 should work well.

Yup. Best-buy for your rig.

Great choice on the PSU, but the case AntecP182 with 2 SLI GTX280 is highly unrecommended and its likely the HX1000 won't fit unless you remove the centre fan bracket in its entirety. Take it from me my TPQ 850 barely fits and my temps currently are a little out of control with just 1 GTX280, thermally the Antec P182 wasn't built to house such big and hot components.

Could not agree more EE. the hx1000 is massive, and the 280's are hot, and the p182 gets quite hot.. Charlie was complaining of this in his WC thread (im pretty sure it was him anyways)

+1 HX 1kW - as was mentioned, make sure you have very good airflow in your Case as those 280's in SLI beg for it!!

I just removed the bracket in the bottom to make more room and without the fan down there my HDD temps jumped 7oc, now if you have more than 1 HDD in the bottom cage it could be much higher. If it wasn't charlie I am sure I complained just as much.

Ultras 1000w Supply I believe has a smaller 'footprint' than the Corsair one, if you wanted to go with that instead. And, the X3 is fully modular as well.

Just a thought,
