I went from logitech MX18? to G5, to G7(which lasted all of 3 weeks before I swore off of cordless mice), to G9, to the Razer mouse. I kept buying logitech mice to match my G15 keyboard, but then found the Razer that matched.

I won't go backwards...the higher res of the Razer over the G5/7/9 wins if, like me, you have a 30-inch monitor.

You can look at it like I do, when it comes to resolution of a mouse....

DPI of a mouse= Pixels travelled per inch of mouse travel. To be more accurate on the screen, you need a lower resolution, so instead of moving 4000 pixels with an inch of mouse movement, you have, say, 400 pixels for every inch..far easier to hit a specific pixel this way.

So, anyway, this is important for me because I have carpal tunnel. The less movement in my hand, the less pain. So I opt for the highest-DPI mouse to save my hands, but look for ultra-customization of resolution so when I game I can get those headshots.

So if you want to tire your mousing hand needlessly, sure, go with the logitech mice. I mean, they work ok, until they die. My wife loves the G7, but she doesn't game like I do. I do havea pile of dead ones here...I game pretty heavy, and I tend to wear out buttons fairly quickly. Right-click always dies on me.

In regards to vista issues, there are none. Not one. Sure, first versions of my mouse to ship needed a firmware update, but that wasn't problems confined to Vista; I dual-boot both Vista and XP.

One thing I will mention about my mouse...it has onboard memory so that when you change settings, you change the mouse, not the driver. Profiles for the mouse are stored in the mouse. This is what caused issues at first, but that issue has long since died.

I love my MX518 ... Just picked up the MX5500 Revolution combo (the keyboard is very nice!) and am letting the MX Revolution Bluetooth mouse charge. I don't have a lot of faith in Bluetooth on the mouse side of things, though ... it just doesn't seem to be able to handle the bandwidth, so it'll probably get assigned to media center duty (my MX5000 bluetooth mouse desperately needs to be replaced as well), but we'll see.

the problem with Razer is build quality for example, rubber and paint can peel but I think the biggest complaint is Drivers.

if your running a resolution of 1680x1050 or higher your going to want something with 1600 DPI and above.

one thing is for sure you or anybody else do not need 4000 DPI so you can take the Razer Lachesis off your list.

the OCZ Equalizer is inexpensive and is a rebrand of A4 Tech X-750F Series it's about $0.32 cents cheaper than the Equalizer and comes in Black instead of Blue it also uses the same Laser Engine as the Razer Copperhead but it only has a 125Hz Polling Rate which is default Windows.

the Cyber Snipa Stinger is very underrated it's like an improved Logitech G5. it has a 3200 DPI Sensor, better Weight System, Extra Set of Feet, 2 More Buttons, Long Cable, Gold Platted USB, Rubber Texture Grip similar to Razer, 8KB onboard Memory.

there are 2 more alternatives for 3200 DPI Sensors the Logitech G9 and SteelSeries Ikari there is a rumblings they use the same Sensor so if thats the case it would come down to build quality and ergonomics and SteelSeries wins that.

I think I got it for about $65. I put it on a Razor Exactmat mouse pad, which seems
a little nuts because they are about $40, smoothest combo I’ve ever used.
I don’t regret it.
you are talking about gaming? I love my revolution, but it is dog slow. It has some serious lag and would never use it for gaming.

Vista has drivers for Razer Lachesis, I don't install Razer software, as after the first time, my DPI settings and click sensitivity are stored in the mouse and go to any computer I plug it in to.

I do not have any build issues with my mouse, although there may be some...mind you all products, like my own logitech mice, have issues now and again.

I mean really, if the OP wanted to try a G5, I'd gladly send him mine with the poorly-functioning RIGHT-CLICK.

Now tell me something, why would right-click not work? The lesser used button? Inferior build quality?

Anyway, my point is this, we are all gonna have an opinion, and when it comes to mice, it dpends on how it fits in your hand. No features is gonna make mousing feel good when te mouse does not fit you hand well, and this is the major consideration. Only by trying mice in your hand will you know what's best for you, and as pointed out, high DPI is only so usefull...

And obviously Christine here has no appreciation for my pain, but that's ok. I'm just trying to save your hands, wallet I could care less about.

it's not really a opinion, it's a census. Razer Drivers are problematic. the other brands usually don't have enough options in the drivers to be problematic :p

Yeah, I tend to not follow general consensus, and experience things for myself. But I could understand why people might have an issue, and I don't.

Does anyone know of a good store to go check 'em all out. Canada Computers caries a lot, but they're all in the package. Best Buy has some out to try, but they don't carry that many.
