Default What printer to buy?

Hello,

So my kodak 2150 has just kicked the bucket. I couldn't be happier. It was a piece of junk from day 2. Anyways I need some suggestions on what printer to get. I seem to always make a bad decision when it comes to printers

Thanks
Tech

Do you need colour? If not, I'd suggest one of the relatively inexpensive Mono laser printers. (I'm quite pleased with my Samsung duplex/network ML-2850 ).

I don't need color but i am pretty sure my wife would be upset if it wasn't color

If you need a colour then my personal experience has been good with the brother MFC series inkjets.

Based on your recommendation this seems to fit all my needs.

Seems a bit pricy... what exactly are you doing with the printer? Do you need photo quality? Fast speeds? What kind of volume are we talking?

I'd be more inclined towards the MFC-J625DW from staples currently on sale at staples for $80.

The ones for my current brother (MFC-495CW) aren't all that bad. IIRC the full set (1 black +3 colour) is under $40 at Costco.

I would still recommend mono laser if a person could get away without colour at all, but the brother carts aren't all that bad.

I am a PC guy but i am also an apple guy. I am looking for a wireless printer that also has airprint functionality.

I did a lot of research and decided on an Epson Artisan 837.
Epson Artisan 837 All-in-One Printer - Product Information - Epson Canada, Limited.

I paid $99 at Staples after Christmas, I've seen it often on sale in the $120-$150 range. One set of cartridges will set you back another $100 and these seldom come on sale.

The first one of these I bought was a dud but after some grief with Staples I got a full refund and then when it was on sale again bought another one. So quality control may be an issue so test it when you get your printer so you can return it within the return policy if it is a dud.

It is wifi and set up was a breeze. It also prints CD's directly which is a nice touch if you send out CD to others (photo sharing in my case). Duplex printing is nice touch (although it does not duplex scan which is not a deal breaker for me but annoying, how much harder would that have been, it has duplex capacity?)

I went for this one because of superior colour images - I'm also into photography. This was a compromise printer - the one I really want is the Epson Stylus Pro Epson Stylus Photo R3000 Inkjet Printer - Product Information - Epson Canada, Limited. But that one is $849 (on sale I see for a mere $649) again cartridges will set you back, not sure exactly how much for this one but somewhere in the $200 but they are larger cartridges.

But if you are not into printing your photo's then it both of these units are overkill.
