Default why have a big mouse pad?

Hi guys Ive had the generic 8x8 mouse pad for years and want to try out these "gaming grade" mouse pads. I own a razer mamba and was wondering why people must have these HUGE mouse pads to game on. I mean if you playing on high dpi then youll hardly move the mouse an inch or 2. I can understand the texturing for either speed or precise but never why people like big mouse pads. It just doesnt make sense to me at all. What is the point of having a 17" mouse pad.

If you use a low sensitivity its a must or else you'll need to keep lifting the mouse.

I rarely use a mouse pad, use the whole desk top. Having said that I do have a large gaming pad and I find you do lift the mouse less as che said. The pad also has a different surface on each side if you need to change friction. I would never go back to a small one.

I'd imagine that just like a larger drawing tablet, a larger mousepad will allow much finer control.

Wit hlowered speed mouse it prevents you from having to lift, I use a 8.5X10 inch black frosted glass mouse pad, makes a bit of noise but once you get used to it nothing feels quite right after.

maybe they are compensating for something???

Depends on the game tho... FPS not so much, but I know a dude who uses mouse to fly helicopter in BattleField (not joystick)... you can imagine he needs half his desk to fly that thing.

as everyone said, having a larger mouse pad is more beneficial for those using a lower dpi setting. i use my mouse at low sensitivity but another reason i have a big mousepad is because on a smaller mousepad, my wrist seems to rest on the bottom edge which becomes irritating after a while :( with a bigger mousepad, i can move my hand further up so that my wrist is actually sitting on the mousepad as well :)

i know i could've gotten a wrist rest, but i was never a fan of those :P
