My System Specs

Default Whats the difference in these cables?

I was looking at ncix's network cable sale and seen these,
ION Cables Ethernet Network Cable 50FT RJ45 CAT5E Stranded UTP - Ion Cables - IC5E50

ION Cables Ethernet Network Cable 50FT RJ45 CAT6 Stranded UTP - Ion Cables - ICCAT650

Whats the difference between cat6 and cat5E? I was planning on using one to go from my bedroom to my file server, one to my htpc and one from my file server to my htpc (shorter for this of course) any help is great :)

Just go w/ the 6E since they are the same price. It is in theory more future proof.

Cat5e is an older cable standard. go with cat6 as it is more future proof and can handle faster data rates. It is also more robust and will be less likely to kink up than cat5e.

Cat 6 is certified to handle Gigabit ethernet, Cat 5E is capable of it but not certified. Buy the Cat 6 cables, especially for server use.
