G9 leaving black residue on my mouse pad
 

so lately I've been noticing that my much loved G9 is leaving back residue on my mouse pad. if i clean it off everyday then it doesn't build up too bad, not a big deal, what is that no matter what is feels like its scratching on my front pad of the mouse.

Is it normal for the padding of the mouse to wear and leave its residue on your mouse pad? I'm using a hard mouse pad that I've used for years - love it, I was wondering if a sand down would help out, kind of work out any minor imperfections in the surface form the last few years.

likely start at 200 grit and work to 800 grit wet. anyone else have a similar problem?

sorry the pic isn't great, but you get the point.

it's just ground and compiled dirt and ****, along with the mousepad slip coating.

My G9 does the same thing. Im using a steelseries SX mousepad (aluminum). About every 2 weeks I will notice built up deposits of black gunk on my mousepad that I have to clean off. The deposits increase the friction, so its slightly annoying.

ya, its just hand grease and dirt, its the same crud that used to build up on mousewheel innards back when they used to have rollers :)

On the same topic, I use a vinyl eraser (the white ones) to remove the dirt buildup on the bottom of the mice on my school computers when I use them. Does this damage the pads of the mouse at all, in case I want to do the same to a mouse that's actually worth maintaining? (I don't care about my school computers' mice because they are damaged in much worse ways to begin with)

My G9 also does this on my SX. Just dead skin gunk I think.

My MX Revolution does the same thing ... but not to the extent of your G9 it appears. I always keep a small microfibre and spray bottle of Stoner's IG on my desk and clean my mouse/keyboard/pad, every few days. Keeps things nice and clean, and oily free. I also keep a large round paint brush in the desk drawer to keep the keyboard clean. I hate having a grimy desk.

And yeah my G5 mouse leaves the same black crud on my mouse pad but it comes off pretty easy so no big deal.

After I clean my xtrac mousepad with diluted windex, I apply just the smallest amount of pledge furniture polish. It keeps my pad nice and slick.
