what type of hard ware to write or draw?

I have been watching some instructional videos on Linux and also windows and I have noticed that in the video they are able to draw and write I am wondering what type of hardware they are using?

If I understand the question correctly, I believe what you're looking for is a tablet. I know nothing about them, and the only name brand that comes to mind is Wacom.
